JIMMY'S FANTASY
A realistic look at the connection between L.A. street gangs, pale faced guitar wizards, blues singers and sexually impotenet fantasies. A real wild one!
THE LADY IN THE FRONT ROW
Something inspired while watching trashy late night television. For everyone who's ever sat shamelessly in the front row. For all the members of the Teenage Fanclub even if only in spirit. An instant classic, it's showtime.
MONOLITH
A beautiful white noise ode to confusion and hope. Note the first Redd Kross song ever to feature Tympani (Brian) and Mellotrone (Gere).
CRAZY WORLD
The only cover song to appear on Phaseshifter. Originally written and recorded by the first Riot Girl group Frightwig, we've arranged a powerful stoogesque version of the almost militant feminist anthem. Together we pose the musical question: "Why does a missile look like a cock?"
DUMB ANGEL
A brilliant insightful examination of how the gentle inspired geniuses of rock 'n' roll crumble nder the pressure of fame and pop idoldom. What do Brian Wilson, Arthur Lee, Syd Barret and Phil Spector all have in common?
HUGE WONDER
L.A.'s our lady. She's a huge wonder?
VISIONARY
Something we wrote while in one of our more dark, bittter, jealous moods. Generally we don't indulge in this patheitic behavior, but on this occasion we found the results quite pleasing.
PAY FOR LOVE
No. It's not about prostitution, or at least not in the literal sense . It's more "Breaking up is hard to do. Part 2". Angst ridden, paranoia personified. And you can dance to it too!
LADY EVANS
A song we wrote about our old neighborhood, Hawthorne, California. The seemingly normal, middle-class town was chock full of wife swapping parties, Parent Teacher Associations (PTA), dominitriques, drugged out cheerleaders and many other social deviants, all thinly disguised behind a Pleasant Valley Sunday facade.
ONLY A GIRL
A song we wrote when both of us were fed up with Steve's ex-girlfriend.
SARAGON
A song about a retarded, lovesick superhero and his quest for intimacy. Could there be a little Saragon in all of us?
AFTER SCHOOL SPECIAL
Ritelin wishes and candy bar dreams. The supercharged screamer has it all. High school dropouts, bomb threats (to get out of class), shop-lifting and Jim Dandy, all things that teens love. And it's a true story too!
These are just a few thoughts about the songs on our new album PHASESHIFTER. Of course, we would like to remind the listeners that all final interpretations are left up to the individuals.
Thank you.
